1. Commitment to Life (and Privacy)
Don't Drown in the Tub is designed to save your life if you slip in the bathroom. To do this, we need to collect specific information.
We only collect what is strictly necessary to trigger your emergency alerts. We don't sell your data—mostly because
advertisers don't care how long you spend in the shower, and neither do we.
2. Data Collection & Usage
What we collect to keep you breathing:
- Device Identifiers: We collect your unique Device ID to identify your session and ensure your emergency protocols are correctly handled.
- Emergency Contact Information: You provide the name and email address of your primary contact. This is used to send automated SOS alerts and posthumous messages.
- Posthumous Handover (Last Words): If you choose to leave a "last message," we store it securely. It is only sent to your emergency contact if the alert remains unaddressed after your chosen threshold (1-7 days).
- Safety Circle Data: We store information about your "Safety Circle" connections created via invite links. This allows friends to see your real-time bathroom status (e.g., "Timer running," "Safe") in-app without requiring their emails.
- Bathroom Activity Logs: We log the start and end times of your bathroom sessions to track your current safety status.
What we DO NOT collect:
- Location Data: We do not track or send your GPS coordinates. We assume your emergency contact knows where you live.
- Personal Contacts: We do not upload your phone's contact list.
- Third-Party Tracking: No analytics pixels, no behavioral tracking, no corporate surveillance.
All data is processed securely via our backend services. Inactive accounts and associated logs are periodically purged.
3. Local Permissions
- Push Notifications: Used to receive "nudges" from your Safety Circle and to alert you if your own timer is about to expire.
- Camera: Optional. Used only if you choose to take a "Safety Selfie" to share your current status with your Safety Circle.
4. Data Retention & Deletion
Inactive accounts are automatically purged after a period of non-use. You can delete your account and all associated
contact/circle data at any time via the settings menu in the app.
